Do I need to buy special tools to juice a lemon?

Some methods require lemon juicing tools. Most of these are either inexpensive or are already in your kitchen.
For instance, we purposely left out the expensive electric mechanical juicing tools.

You don’t need them.

As a matter of fact, for you, the absolute beginner cook, simple is always the way to go.

It doesn’t really matter which tool you use, as long as you like using it. You can also use just your hands. That works fine too.

How to Juice a Lemon by Hand

If you have no other tools available, using your hands is the way to go.

The “fleshy side up” method is a must to keep the lemon seeds out of your juice. Face your palm upwards while squeezing the lemon.

The lowly dinner fork. It acts like a citrus reamer, only with a little more effort. You likely already have one in your kitchen. It costs nothing to use, and it actually works very well if you use the method seen in this video.

You may decide to purchase a tool to juice a lemon. If that’s the case, then a hand held reamer is an effective, simple and inexpensive option.

The table top citrus reamer is also very inexpensive. It gets the job done just fine.

How to Juice a Lemon with a Citrus Press

I had the highest hopes for the citrus press. In theory, it should work the best, giving you maximum juice. However, if your lemon is a little to big, it’s hard to squeeze. I’d say the citrus press is nice to have, but you don’t need it. It just proves our motto at secrets of cooking. Simple is always best for the absolute beginner cook.
